Dec 6, 2023
The ceremony of laying flowers in the Memorial Public Garden named after V.F. Polyakov took place on December 5 - the day of the 82nd anniversary of the beginning of the Soviet counterattack near Moscow during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). The event was attended by representatives of the administration, public organizations, delegations of Stupino enterprises, veterans, schoolchildren and pupils of military-patriotic associations.
The delegation of Stupino Metallurgical Company was headed by Vitaly Petrovich Shmelev, CMK General Director.
Speaking before the participants of the event, Deputy Head of the Stupino Urban District Sergey Protopopov reminded that more than 20,000 residents of the district fought on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, more than half of them did not return from the battlefields. More than 14,000 Stupino residents were awarded insignias and medals after the War.
- The residents of the District selflessly defended the country on the front line and worked on the home front. In 2021 Stupino was awarded the title "The City of Labor Valor" for their heroic and labor exploits. Our sacred duty is to keep the memory of the feat of our fathers and grandfathers, - said Sergei Protopopov.
The stele of labor valor depicts for centuries the feat of labor of Stupino metallurgists, who with their hard work forged the Victory in the rear, ensuring the production of goods for the needs of the front. Metallurgists from Stupino were the first in the country to master the method of continuous casting, rolling of 900-kilogram ingots, developed a new type of casting machine with high-intensity cooling. The memory of the heroes lives in the hearts of metallurgists, who today continue the traditions laid down by veterans.
After a moment of silence, the metallurgists laid flowers and wreaths at the Eternal Flame, honoring the memory of the fallen.
