Vladimir Polyakov

January 14, 2023 would have marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Hero of the Soviet Union Vladimir Fomich Polyakov. On this day, residents of the city of Stupino laid flowers at the bust of the hero in the park under the same name.

Vladimir Fomich at the age of 9 moved with his family from the Saratov region to Stupino. In 1941 he graduated from the Stupino Secondary School No. 1, and already in July he was enlisted as a volunteer in the Stupino Fighter Battalion No. 56.

Until the moment of evacuation in November 1941, battalion No. 56 guarded plant No. 150 (now the Stupino Metallurgical Company), at the end of November it was transferred to Kashira, where it was on combat duty. In February 1942, V.F. Polyakov was drafted into the army and sent to the Moscow Infantry School.

From October to December 1942 he fought on the Western Front Since April 1943 — on the Central Front, as part of the 75th Guards Rifle Division. He especially distinguished himself in the Chernigov-Pripyat offensive operation, including during the crossing of the Dnieper and in battles on the captured bridgehead.

Before the assault on the city of Bakhmach, Chernihiv region, on September 9, 1943, with his platoon, he was the first to enter the city and warned the command of the regiment about the enemy's ambush. On the night of September 22, at the head of a platoon, he secretly crossed the Dnieper, penetrated the Glebovka pier (Vyshgorodsky district of the Kiev region) and obtained information about the enemy, which helped to successfully force the regiment's units to cross the river and seize a bridgehead on its right bank. In the battle on September 26, 1943, he was seriously wounded and on the same day died of wounds in the medical battalion No. 80 of the 75th Guards Rifle Division.
